VISION & MISSION
OUR VISION
SPLASh envisions a Texas coast where local communities and natural resource managers are working together to reduce coastal trash pollution, creating an environment where people, birds, and other wildlife thrive.
OUR MISSION
SPLASh is creating a cleaner environment for people, birds, and other wildlife
in the greater Houston-Galveston region through
community science, education, and outreach.
We host regular coastal cleanups where community volunteers collect, sort, and categorize trash. Data from these cleanups will be
added to local and state-wide databases to inform better waste management practices.
COMMUNITY
SCIENCE
We engage local students through educational programs that introduce them to their local ecosystems and species, and the threats posed by trash pollution. Students also have the opportunity to join coastal cleanups to learn about trash pollution and data collection first-hand.
EDUCATION
OUTREACH
We conduct outreach activities through community events and social media to engage residents in solutions to our trash pollution problem. We also work with local natural resource managers and municipalities to develop data-driven best management practices.
